Illuvium is an ensemble of sculptural elements that form the focal point of the entry sequence to buildings at Moffett Place, a corporate office campus in Sunnyvale, California.
Some parts of Sunnyvale are located in reclaimed marshland in the hinterland between the San Francisco Bay and the rest of suburban Silicone Valley, so Illuvium takes formal cues from this rapidly vanishing landscape.
Alternating colors in concentric rings of concrete reference layers of sediment or ripples in the sand when the tide rolls out, while a central fountain could be symbolic of a tide pool, surrounded all by gentle hills and marshy grasses.
I worked on a variety of elements in this project from 3D models and fabrication drawings of the benches, fountain, landscape screens, and light tower, as well as portions of the construction set.
